June 14, 2011 Dear Parents, School year 2011-2012 is already here! As a new school year begins, I welcome students, families and staff to Westfields International School for a successful year of teaching and learning. I hope you will take every opportunity to participate in your child’s education this year. I am very proud of the several physical developments we have accomplished this summer. We have three (3) new sets of US made playground equipment with shock-absorbing flooring as an added safety feature for the preschool and grade school students. The physics and biology laboratories and an audio-visual room in the fifth floor of the high school department have been constructed to provide more experiential learning. Additional interactive whiteboards, projectors and computers were acquired to continuously enhance the learning experiences of the students in the classroom. We are also looking forward to the completion of the new air-conditioned cafeteria relocated to the high school building and the sound proof music studio for guitar and drum lessons. Below are some important first day reminders to start the school year right. Student Handbook Our Student Handbook contains the policies and procedures of Westfields International School. It is found in our school website which you can access by registering online to get a password. We request that you read it together with your child. It contains vital information for students to be successful. Use it as your guide all throughout the school year. Traffic and Parking Lot Procedures To insure the safety of Westfields students and parent drivers, it is critical that you follow the traffic and parking lot procedures both during drop-off and pick-up. It is our hope to continuously eliminate any backed up traffic that may occur during pick-up or dismissal time. A. TRAFFIC FLOW Driveway safety: When dropping your children off at the gate, please have them ready to exit the car as quickly as possible in order to keep traffic moving. We are trying to prevent cars from blocking the street. Also we ask that you exit through the parking lot. Making a U-Turn to exit after the drop off area creates a possible dangerous situation for the multiple cars coming out from the parking lot. One helpful suggestion to ease the traffic congestion during pick-up/dismissal time is for the cars to park at the parking lot and parents to personally pick-up their children at the gate and walk them to their vehicle. There is a crossing guard at the crosswalk to monitor children crossing. This is a great way to ease our traffic congestion in front of the school and teach our child/children to follow traffic rules and signs. Drive slowly (5mph) and cautiously while in the car lanes or elsewhere in the parking lot. There may be children behind your car. Please be courteous to our traffic volunteers and safety patrols. They are there to keep everyone safe. B. RAINY DAYS The Parking Area is now filled with gravel to address the concern about the dust and mud. A covered walk from the gate to the waiting area in the car park will be provided to protect our students and parents from the rain. It is also recommended that parents and students provide for their umbrella/raincoat when there is rain. C. TRAFFIC ALTERCATION BETWEEN PARENTS Any disagreement between parents regarding the traffic system shall be immediately reported by the school guard/staff to any school administrator who is tasked to intervene or mediate between the two parties to avoid any further aggravation of the situation. The school strongly believes that we should show respect and observe proper decorum at all times to serve as role models to the students who shall assume the same adult responsibilities in the future and to avoid any dispute that may arise. BUSINESS OFFICE The Business Office is open from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm (Monday to Friday) and 8:00 am to 12:00 nn (Saturday) to entertain questions or concerns relating to school fees, decisions or policies. You are encouraged to regularly check updates and announcements on our website, www.westfields-is.com and please do not hesitate to contact us at 0917-520-0001 or 0917-510-0002 for any question you may have about any aspect of what Westfields has to offer.
